At Moses Taylor Foundation, we approach our grantmaking process with humility, transparency, and open-mindedness. We welcome the opportunity to meet with individuals who are dedicated to improving the health of our community. We believe grantmaking should be a collaborative process, where each potential project begins as an idea and gains strength through active listening and meaningful conversation.
Given this approach, we request that all prospective grantees schedule a brief pre-submission meeting prior to applying for funding. This informal conversation helps us learn more about your organization’s needs and interests, determine if your request aligns with the Foundation’s Focus Areas, and guide you through our application process.
To schedule a meeting, send an email to the appropriate program officer with the subject line “Proposal Meeting Request.” Prior to the meeting, be sure to thoroughly review our Proposal Guidelines.
Email Christine Marcos, Senior Program Officer, for School-Based Health, Older Adult Health, and Community-Wide Nonprofit Effectiveness requests.
Email Lisa Savero-Mooney, Program Officer, for Health Care Access and Quality and Organization-Specific Nonprofit Effectiveness requests.
Email Ellen Stevens, Operations and Grants Manager, with any questions regarding proposal submission and the online portal.
Open Cycle Grant requests ($40,000 or more) are reviewed three times per year, and proposals must be submitted in accordance with the pre-established schedule.
Applicants are required to schedule a meeting with Foundation staff prior to proposal submission. This provides staff with an opportunity to learn about the organization’s needs and interests and to advise the organization on the best fit with the Foundation’s Focus Areas.
Proposals are submitted electronically through the Foundation’s online portal. Applicants must submit a complete proposal by the designated submission date to be considered for funding. Upon receipt of a completed application, applicants will receive an email confirmation.
Foundation staff will review all proposals to confirm alignment with the Foundation’s Focus Areas and receipt of all required information. Following review, the Foundation will request a virtual proposal meeting for all applications receiving further consideration. Declined applicants will receive a notification of the Foundation’s decision via email. Please add noreply@yourcause.com and grants@mosestaylorfoundation.org to your Safe Senders List to ensure all correspondence is received.
Proposal meetings are held virtually and are scheduled for 45 minutes. Moses Taylor Foundation staff and board members attend these conversations to obtain a firsthand appreciation of the applicant’s work and the project under consideration. The Foundation’s Operations and Grants Manager will contact you to schedule the proposal meeting during the designated review week. In addition, your Program Officer will contact you to answer any questions you have about the proposal meeting and next steps.
Foundation staff provide an analysis of all proposals under further consideration for review by the Foundation’s Board of Directors. The review includes an evaluation of the grant proposal, feedback from the proposal meeting, and any other information gathered regarding the applicant and proposed grant request. Funding decisions are made during the Board’s quarterly meeting, and applicants are notified of the final funding decisions by their Program Officer shortly thereafter.
Rolling Grant requests (less than $40,000) are reviewed on an ongoing basis to respond quickly to community needs. Proposals may be submitted at any time.
